SONG VIBES
DW NOTES
- Being in the present moment with a lover.
- The joy of it, the bliss of leaving all banalities behind. The amazing magic place of knowing someone well, but not yet having to contend with day-to-day realities.
SM NOTES
- let’s put you in this one - i imagine something a bit dreamy, eye shots
-
- Nothing on earth impresses me LESS than the false claim of a rags to riches, or the claim of “being the hardest working person” when the reality is a privilege soaked life where it would have been hard to fail.
- And so, this song is intended to cheekily poke at this entitled sense of self-satisfaction. The lyrics talk about the imaginary world of the market, the non-sense of telling people to “pull themselves up by their bootstraps” etc.
- Then at the end, it shifts to Julian Psighois’ brilliant drum solo over a dark instrumental vamp, which transitions the mood away from the cheeky and towards how serious this problem actually is.
SM NOTES
- could be interesting do do some kind of journey video where the main character (you obscured) has a dreamlike or idealized reality of entitlement and capialistic american dream & work ethic bullshit constantly being interrupted by something distorting this reality
- This song is about repeated patterns through life.
- About how traumas continue to inform so many decisions, and how they can feel like lice lurking in your hair.
- And it intertwines this idea of repeated patterns of trauma and corresponding effects with repeated patterns in nature like the repeating fractals in fern fronds, or repeated patterns of ecology: insects, pterodactyls, birds as masters of the skies for example.
- The chorus changes the scale of thinking to be more in the present moment.
SM NOTES
- would love to dig into your knowledge of ecology and connection to that world in a more abstract montage type video
Some Kids
- This is about large scale patterns too. With being disconnected from nature, and about how serious that can be for the planet and ourselves.
- We are part of the earth despite how much we may think of ourselves as separate or superior.
SM NOTES
- this song lends itself super well to using visual or narrative contrast and distortion - how can we represent this disconnect visually?
- something as simple as using a screen showing our own version of planet earth in a desolate urban environemnt
CREATIVE APPROACH 1
DOCUMENTARY & PORTRAITURE BASED

CREATIVE APPROACH 2
PATTERNS, COLLAGE, THE NATURAL WORLD, EARTHY WITH A A LITTLE SURREALISM
Song videos
Album artwork?
Recurring themes and use of:
- repetitive natural motifs
- symmetry and fractals in nature
- dig into your ecologist / bioligist meets musical identity
- aesthetics grounded in tactile feel and realism
- intermittent interruptions of surrealism / scale / constrast
- editing techniques that evoke themes in songs (long, one take videos to indicate presence, using distortion to demonstrate disconnect)
